Welcome CEMEX representatives, and thank you for taking the time to visit my site!  Below you will find several examples of my previous work, along with descriptions of the role I played in each of the projects.  My hope is that by the time you're finished, you will see that I'm a well-rounded, capable, and efficient marketer/producer.  If you have any questions, or would like to see more of my work, please feel free to contact me at bobbyrigg@gmail.com.

BRAND-BUILDING EXAMPLES

When AENT Associates approached me, they had no television presence, and had been unhappy with previous attempts to market their product.  I helped salvage their first TV campaign, and what you see here is the second campaign I produced for them, a project for which they requested me by name because of their previous success.  I wrote, directed, and edited the final spots.

Dr. Colby Stewart of Stewart Lasik made it clear to me that he was not comfortable in front of the camera, so for this project I interviewed him on camera, using questions that steered him in the direction he wanted to go for his marketing message.  I then worked with his web designer to make sure that the on-air spot had the same look and feel of his website.  The end result was a more natural, genuine spot that provided patients with a consistent experience across multiple platforms.

KHOU 11 has a broad, far-reaching brand that has changed dramatically over the years.  In 2011, the station re-branded with "Stands For Houston" message, focused on associating KHOU 11 with the pride Houstonians feel in our city and each other.  I have helped build this new brand from day one, looking for examples, stories, and station activities that help reinforce this message for our viewers.  Beyond writing scripts, directing shoots, and editing spots, I am also directly involved in the strategic planning for the marketing and content associated with this brand.

WRITING EXAMPLES

Hurricanes: Prepare, Know, Survive was produced to help educate and inform Houstonians on how to protect themselves during a hurricane.  Houston has grown immensely over the past year, gaining thousands of new residents who may not be familiar with hurricanes, and that information guided our strategy and approach to this special.  For this project, I logged all of the interviews, wrote the script, and managed the production team (Director of Photography, Editor, Graphic Designer) from start to finish.

Independence Plaza: Innovation at Work was produced to create excitement for Space Center Houston's newest exhibit.  This project required an incredible amount of preparation, organization, and coordination with on-camera talent, freelancer crews, and the top-level staff at Space Center Houston.  I logged the majority of the interviews, wrote the script, and managed the production team (Producer, Director of Photography, Editor, Graphic Designer) from start to finish.

Sizzle Reels provide a great writing showcase because producing them requires me to tell a cohesive story across multiple aspects of a brand.  These examples presented clients with the very best the respective brands/products had to offer.  While they require a lot of work (researching the topics, gathering the materials, and weaving them together with a cohesive script), a strong sizzle reel can be a key difference-maker for marketing a product.

INTERVIEWING EXAMPLES

Leigh's Story starts when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She survived, thanks to her strength and the help of Memorial Hermann's talented and compassionate team of cancer experts.  I produced this vignette to help Memorial Hermann thank the donors to their Breast Cancer center.  I interviewed Leigh and Robin, and then worked with my Director of Photography to shoot some footage of Leigh in and around the hospital.  I also worked with Leigh to get photos and other elements that helped tell her story.  This was an emotional, challenging, and extremely rewarding project.  I'm thankful to Memorial Hermann for the opportunity!

Partnering with the Houston Fire Department and State Farm, the goal of this campaign was to convey Messages to Our Kids about the dangers of distracted driving.  These are real parents who I asked to write letters to their kids.  I met them at a studio, where I had them read their letters on camera.  I then interviewed each of them, asking questions about their relationships with their children.  The Houston Fire Department was pleased with the way these vignettes turned out, and we tracked excellent engagement on air and on social media.

When the KHOU 11 Weather Team launched their social media sites, I wanted to get the message out to viewers in a real, genuine, and ultimately unscripted way.  The goal was to make the spots feel conversational, like social media, while still maintaining a level of production "polish."  I also wanted our meteorologists to address the viewers directly, which required the meteorologists to answer my questions differently than they would if they were responding to me.  This campaign directly contributed to the rapid growth of our meteorologists' social media sites.

EDITING EXAMPLES

Cadillac: Shaping Houston is a series of unscripted video vignettes showcasing up and coming entrepreneurs who have traveled to Houston from all over the world and are contributing to the growth and prosperity of our city.  These projects were brought to me in their raw form, and I was tasked with putting together compelling stories using the interview audio, photos/footage provided by the interviewees, music, and graphics.  These are my favorite types of challenges, and I get great satisfaction from making the stories come together.

Often when the KHOU 11 News team completes a major investigation, I will create a companion "trailer" to help generate buzz leading up to the story.  These social trailers are posted on the KHOU 11 Facebook page and are designed to push people to watch the story on the air.  Producing for social media is much different than producing for television.  There is less of a time restriction, allowing for more dramatic effect, and there is more emphasis on the visual storytelling, as most social media viewers will at least start the video with the sound off.  These social trailers provide an excellent opportunity for me to stretch my editing muscles.

As each year draws to a close, the tradition at KHOU 11 is to put together a "Year Ender" campaign which looks back at the biggest stories from the previous 12 months.  These projects require sifting through hundreds of hours of raw video, news packages, and interviews, choosing the best sound, and piecing it all together to tell a story.  The biggest challenge (and the most fun part about these projects) is including enough information about each story to stir the memories of viewers, while moving on quickly enough to include a high story count and encapsulate the entire year in a tight time frame.

Sports spots are some of the most fun to edit, partially because I am a huge fan of all Houston sports teams, and partially because sports inherently provide fast-paced, high-impact visuals.  Whenever I edit sports material, I pay special attention to the audio that accompanies the visuals.  A strong music track and powerful soundbites can go a long way toward enhancing the overall atmosphere of these projects.

CEMEX EXAMPLES

When I heard that two of Cemex's plants had won regional "best of" awards, and that the competition had been branded the "Arizona Smackdown," I knew this was going to be a fun project.  From writing all the way through editing, I had a blast putting this video together, and I can tell the employees enjoyed the event as well.

National Driver Appreciation Week was an opportunity to celebrate the hardworking drivers who help Cemex products reach consumers safely and on schedule.  Knowing that music would provide the energy for this video, I searched for a track that matched the nonstop, go-getter attitude of the drivers featured in this video.

The Cemex Employee Engagement campaign has given me a firsthand look at what it's like to work for Cemex.  It's obvious that Cemex employees enjoy their jobs, and truly believe in the values of the company.

The Cemex Technical Center video was a fun, quick-turn video that involved some of my favorite types of graphic elements.  In today's social media-first world, being able to tell a story without sound is key.  I get a lot of enjoyment out of creating eye-catching videos that help tell a story alongside compelling video.

The Cemex Ops video showcases the various plants and employees who make Cemex such a great company.  I have enjoyed looking through all of the impressive drone footage, and logging the various interviews with employees who obviously love their jobs.

The Cemex Victorville Anniversary Celebration was my first project with Cemex, and what first got me interested in learning more and potentially working for the company.  As I watched the celebration unfold, and logged the various speeches and interviews, I could tell that Cemex is a company that takes care of its people.  It's immediately obvious how much pride the employees take in their work, and how much pride Cemex takes in its heritage.
